I was excited about getting to try out Yahoo Widgets' Day Planner - in fact several months ago I had suggested to Yahoo (and Google!) via their feedback forms, that they develop a local desktop widget that would sync with Yahoo Calendar.
I am finding that Day Planner does not sync with Yahoo Calendar.
- Events are not pushed to Calendar.
- I expect it to download everything from Calendar so I dont have to be connected to the internet all the time. It does not do this.
- does not allow for alert times to be set unlike in Calendar.
Usually Yahoo's stuff is very good. It is disappointing that Yahoo has brought out something that does not work as expected.
Isn't it disappointing that Yahoo Widgets' Day Planner doesn't work properly?
I think Widgets are disappointing altogether. I downloaded them.. put some on my desktop and it really bogged my system down. For one thing, they are made by people like you and I and some are much more experienced than others, and for another, I'm afraid I'll get a virus. I deleted it.
Reply:The calendar widget is supposed to be doing the things you've described.
I'd suggest you leave the feedback directly on the widget site for the author. Yahoo usually is pretty good about responding to these problems.
As for concerns about viruses... Widgets are basically mini-browsers (like IE) that just look nice. The language that they are written is mostly Javascript which is the same language used in lots of websites (including Yahoo) for common features.
In short, you won't get a virus.
