What are Yahoo! Widgets??

I thought a Widget was a 'thing' that rolls around inside a can of John Smiths!

What are Yahoo! Widgets??
Widgets are small computer applications that can be used to customize your computer desktop. You will require a Yahoo Widget Engine to run them and if you download one it comes with a sample starter pack of about twenty widgets that you can check out. They include a clock, email widgets, calendar, clipboard and other stuff.

Check out the widget site for more amazing stuff. My favorite is the ticker tape feed widget, running across my computer screen with all my news-feeds from My Yahoo.
Reply:Yahoo! Widgets is a free JavaScript runtime engine for Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows, previously called Konfabulator, but subsequently bought by computer services company Yahoo!. The runtime engine runs small applications referred to as Widgets, and hence is part of a class of software applications called widget engines. It combines its JavaScript engine with an XML document structure that can be used to author custom Widgets.

Note the uppercase "W" in Widget; this is the proper use of capitalization when referring to the actual applets that Yahoo! Widget Engine runs. The aforementioned use of capitalization is unique to this particular widget engine.
Reply:they are little displays you can put on your desktop. THere is a Yahoo! widget engine where you can choose which displays you want. for example, there's a digital clock, analog clock, stock ticker, iTunes remote, etc. You can open and close your widgets at any time you want to. There is also a widget gallery where you can download more and new widgets.

THEY ARE AWESOME!

Reply:idk but i'd like to
Reply:Yahoo Widgets are a collection of programs/gadgets which can be run on the desktop, clocks RSS readers, radios tuners and so on, there are 1000's of them to choose from.

The design is quite good, but quite frankly, I never found anything which was remotely useful to me.
