How can I install widgets downloaded on other web sites to Yahoo! Widgets?

The filename must end with .widget and you can just copy this one into the correct directory (don't know in US version of Windows) but just right click on a widget and choose %26gt;%26gt;Widgets in Explorer%26lt;%26lt;. There you will find the installed widgets and you can easily drag'n'drop or copy'n'paste the file!

Widgets! Have you dabbled in them?

I used Smart Notes, a ToDo list, a system monitor, Cam viewers, Car maintenance, Gas prices, lots of games, and before the Yahoo Widget Dock a Widget Launcher. Actually I have used to many to mention.





Now I have Vista which uses MSN Gadgets I use a Clock with a alarm, a Calendar, a System monitor, Note %26amp; ToDo List, an Application Launcer and a Web Radio player that uses less resources than the installed media player. Plus others that would take time to explain what they do. There are not alot of Gadgets available yet.





I have also used Google Gadgets, which had alot of excelent applications, but the Sidebar used to much resources and I had to remove it.

But if I were to create an artificial drop in supply, by let's say locking up half the worlds widgets in a cellar, and therefore driving the prices up, well there are certain situations where that could be called price-gouging.





I don't think this is necessarily illegal, but in certain situations where the product in question is essential for every day life (like, food, clothing, housing, fuel), and the inflated price is having negative impacts across the economy, the government can step in and shake things up. It is quite justified to do this. After all the government is a tool of the people, and if the majority of people are suffering because of an artificial supply shortage well the people should flex their muscle.





There are certain products a government won't get involved in when such products are being artificially inflated. Diamonds for example are drastically overpriced because most diamonds are being kept out of the market by a single family; the De Beers family.





Nobody cares if diamonds are artificially inflated because nobody needs diamonds to live.





But we need oil to live. No we don't have a birth right to cheap gas, but we do have a birth right to have our government fight for a fair market place.

And, to answer your initial question, yes.. if I had the widgets, I am sure that I would take advantage of the fact that I could sell them for a higher price. I was just simply referring to the fact that the gas price system is not simple supply and demand, etc.. AND in all honesty, I don't blame the companies for raising their prices.. They know they can.. and they do. It's all about making money just like everyone wants to do. And I also agree that people don't "deserve" cheap gas.. just like they don't "deserve" cheap computers and homes, etc..

Widgets are basically small applications made for the Mac OSX operating system. PC's may also now use them, but I'm not sure - I only use Macs. You may have to look somewhere else for the photos.

If its just from viewing it if you look at the bottom left after you have pressed F12 or made your widgets viewable there should be a round circle with a plus symbol, click on that and all the widgets should then have a small x with a round circle in it. If you click on that it will vanish,





If you want to completely remove it if you click on the dash board manager which is one of the ones on the first part on the bottom left you should be able to manage which widgets you want installed or not installed.
Reply:click on you "Dashboard" application. When your dashboard shows up, at the bottom left corner you will see a circle with a X in it. click on it and you will notice all the widgets now have the same. when you click on the same circle/X icon they are deleted.

it takes alot of memory to run widgets, so if your computer is on the older side it wont work





i would recommend either forgeting about widgets, or doing alot of defrags and diskclean ups, and deleteing unwanted programs from your computer

There's an icon on your desktop screen that says Yahoo! Widgets. Easily click it twice. A smaller version of that same icon will appear next to the time or whatever. Right click that and go to 'recent widgets'. Then go to buddies or whatever that is and click it. If it's not there then press open widget... and then find buddies. Then you would go to widget preferences and and click the buddies. Then change it.

1 minute later! i figured it out. Go to widget tool bar on the lower right hand side of your screen. Then click widget preferences. From there you will have options to all of ur running widgets! Just click analog clock and reset it to normal. WOW, i got scared lol.

Yahoo puts your widgets in "My Documents". It is listed there under "My Widgets". The icon you want to click on is "picture frame". Right click on the picture to get the frame you want.


You can also right click on the Widget icon on your tool bar at the bottom of your screen. Then click on recent widgets. It should still be there under picture frame.


If you still can't find it, go to the start menu and click on search. Then put My Widgets on the search. When found, click on the one that says file folder. Then click on picture frame.

before you download and find you are not using widgets make sure that you can also delete the program with little or no problems





check and note what folder or file that wdgets has been download to so you can delete

In v3 i had Yahoo weather running 4 copies of itself (4 different locations giving me their weather forecasts, eg. Las Vegas, Toronto, New York, Florida). In v4, i can run 4 copies no problem, but if the computer restarts i end up with the 4 versions running but all show the same location (Las Vegas, Las Vegas, Las Vegas, Las Vegas) where in Ver 3 it retained the 4 different locations.

Why don't you see if Google Desktop as an equivalent plugin? Its much less intensive on your computer.

I just downloaded yahoo widget just to use the coke reward thing. I am trying to sign in and it tells me that I have no network connection available. Go to your control panel then click add/remove programs. scroll down for anything that has yahoo in it. Select the name of the program you want removed and then click "change/remove" that should take you through the uninstall process.





If you come across an option to remove all yahoo programs then select "yes"





If this does not work then you can attempt a system restore.


Here's how: on the windows tool bar [press windows key] click "help %26amp; support" then type in "system restore" click search. From the list of options, select "run system restore wizard" and this will take you through the process.

I thought I downloaded a "widget" for "foreclosures", went thru windows and all but it never appeared on the Yahoo toolbar! So now I don't know where it is or if I did something wrong, I'm brand new here, been "online" for exactly 7 weeks and I'm pretty much lost half the time. Please HELP!!!

Weather Widgets for my Multiply site that WORK?

I signed up for one at weather.com, but Multiply says I can't use Java in my profile box, so I signed up for a different one at WeatherBug, but my local info will not show up in the widget. I have this and I live in Lincolnshire UK. It shows my town on the widget but where does it get its information from? Soemtimes its wrong. It could be sunny outside but raining on the widget.

As far as I know, the met office has people who take official readings in certain locations and only at certain times during the day - it may only be once a day in some cases. Yahoo uses The Weather Channel to provide their info, so it would not be unreasonable for them to use the same info as released by the met office - this is just a possiblity though - if you really want to know for definite, e-mail the weather channel, their website is: http://uk.weather.com/





The readings may not be taken from your exact location either - the readings for my area are taken from the next town away, which is about 9 miles away and a lot lower in altitude which can make a lot of difference, such as us being snowed in and them having sun.





If you want to get a more accurate local weather reporting device, try getting a digital weather centre, as they report pressure, temperature (outside and inside), hygrometer (humudity), plus other things like an atomic clock, the times of the sunset/sunrise and moonset/moonrise etc. I used to use the Yahoo weather widget, but now I rely on my weather centre for the exact same reasons as you outlined in your question.
Reply:There is a known issue with the feed that the Weather Widget uses which causes the time to be off for certain non-US timezones. So, you are likely looking at the right forecast for your location but at the wrong time (because the Widget thinks "now" is a different time than it actually is). The Widgets team is aware of this issue and working on a resolution.

Yeah....it is a bit annoying but i found the way.......if you don't have the 'yahoo widget engine' , click the 'Get It' button and there only(in the site) it will ask you to 'Install' or 'cancel'................BUT IF YOU ALREADY HAVE WIDGET ENGINE, GO TO 'WIDGET HISTORY' (near comments) AND THEN CLICK 'WINDOWS' OR 'MAC' (whichever you have)................good luck

Should I be concerned about using a phrase "sort of like eBay, but only for widgets" as a tagline in my logo?

I have a website that is best described as "sort of like eBay, but just for widgets".





I've been using this text in some marketing materials I've sent out and think it really explains the site easily and quickly, without wasting space. I'm considering using this as the tagline on my site, meaning it could be featured in logos and print material.





Can I do this? Is it covered because eBay's such a huge icon? What if it is only used for comparison(and is a fair comparison)?





The key here is that this is also a new website, so it's relatively obscure and gets minimal traffic. I can't imagine it's worth the trouble of big companies to go after.

I wouldn't use their name in your actual logo. There is NOTHING wrong with comparing yourself to eBay in an article or in marketing materials. But in your logo you're appropriating their name as part of yours. That will definitely get you a cease-and-desist letter.
Reply:It depends how much competition that you give to eBay, but by doing so, you are promoting eBay too. Thinking up something more unique and special for your site, otherwise, you give eBay more "impression" to your customers.

Yahoo Widgets provide widgets. Widgets are basically little programs that you can use on other sites, such as Myspace, or your own website. They are not specific in their nature, so they could be absolutely anything.





I think the origin probably came from a contraction of 'window' and 'gadget', which I think pretty much explains what they are.

I have a few widgets on my computer at work...like one is a weather widget that constantly updates me on what the weather forecast is like for my city...i have one that's a task list where i can check things off and update progress instead of having a million little post its all over the place...and some are not nearly as functional and just cool to look at. I think they're cool at first but then lose their luster after about a week when you don't even pay attention to them anymore..and as for how they're used....when you download the widgets program...you are given a ton of widgets to choose from...so you can customize which ones you use...and you can place them anywhere on your desktop. It's supposed to make your desktop more user friendly and help you get the things you need faster...
Reply:Clock, calendar, and notes are most useful yahoo widgets, I think. If you install widget 4.0, the most frequently used widgets are preloaded, you don't need to download. You just click what the pattern of those widgets which you want them to show in the desktop.

Reply:Anyone who uses the word "hoopnanny" deserves to be well informed. My experience with widgets are that they are mostly fun ways to get information. I love the werewolf one, which allows you to see the current phase of the moon. For some folks this may be helpful for tide info. I enjoy hiking to watch the rise, a couple of days into the full phase. I like the analog clock as well. Since I learned on this type, it gives me a better "feel" about what time it is. The optional incremental alarm makes my friend's dog go into a tizzy however, I think it slowed my computer down a bit.

IE 7 32-Bit stopped working when I installed Google Desktop (Widgets) on Vista, but IE 7 64-Bit works fine?

My notebook PC has 64-Bit Vista installed on it (with Vista Ultimate, if it matters. 2GB RAM.)





For background info, my computer came with 32-Bit IE 7 AND 64-Bit IE 7 -- and until this problem I've used both versions without incident.





Yesterday, I decided to install Google Desktop on my notebook so I could use Google Widgets instead of Vista's.





Since that install, IE 7 (32-Bit Version) won't work -- it opens, my default tabs appear, but it hangs without loading the sites.





IE 7 (64-Bit Version) runs just fine -- no problems at all.





Anyone know what's up? If it was a Memory/Resource issue, I would assume 64-Bit IE 7 would have the same problem.





Any thoughts on this are much appreciated.

Is there any way to change the order of my widgets in the dock?

I hate the order that my widgets appear in on my dock. I'd like to have things like clocks and weather and things I use often up at the top, but I can't seem to find any way to change the order. I've tried renaming the files for alphabetical order but it doesn't work when I do that. Is there any other way?

The Widget Dock doesn't have a feature to rearrange widgets.





One way to arrange widgets is to:





• Open the Widgets you use the most.


• Click on the Widget,


• Select Hide Widget


• Collapse the Widget Dock.


Only the Open Widgets will show


When you want to use the Widget,


• Click on the Widget in the Dock





Another way is to use the Heads Up Display





• Open and Hide the Widgets


When you want the Widgets


• Click on the Widget dock. (to get the menu)


• Click on Heads Up Display





I now have Vista and Vista uses Gadgets. So I can't give you the exact step to collapse the Dock.





When I had Widgets I used the # symbol in front of the name of the Widget I wanted at the top. You can use any of these symbols #$%%26amp;!, and the widgets will display in various order.





The only trouble in alphabetizing or using numbers or symbols, is that you are changing the name of the Widget. The Dock will treat it as a new Widget.





This may cause you to lose the Preferences and Data. Some Widgets will create a new data folder. Changing the Name will also effect update notification.





Some Widget store data In a Widget Data directory.





• Click on My Computer


To get to that area, enter the following path:


• C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Yahoo\Widget Engine\Widget Data


You can delete the Widgets' data folders that aren't being used.





Username is usually yourname.
