First You Gotta Open The Whatchamacallit

And Your Widgets Are Ready To Launch
Reply:Counter clockwise. Remember to use a 3/8th inch widget wrench, and don't make the fuse too short.
And, of course, keep on keeping on with the widget chant.

Does Windows CE platform support Widgets or is it possible to develop widgets in WinCE?
If they are MSC Widgets, and make $ for Microsoft, sure, they support em all day long, or until the license runs out, then there is no more support.
Anything you develop on a Windows OS belongs to Microsoft, least that is what they are trying to say and so far it has been working.
Do I have windows, sure, do I use it often, not really.

Yahoo! Widgets problem?
F8 brings your Widgets forward. Unfortunately, due to how Windows' APIs are set up, the Widgets can't be sent back to the desktop level by the engine... So you're basically stuck with the current behavior, even in other widget engines, until Microsoft provides a better facility for manipulating window levels.
However, if you're working in a web browser, for example, clicking on the browser window after dismissing Heads Up Display will bring the browser window in front of your Widgets

What's the best widget application? Google Desktop/Sidebar, Yahoo Widgets(konfabulator), or Microsoft Gadgets?
Yahoo Widgets are very good. Microsoft Gadgets don't exist yet -- They'll come out when the next version of Windows (Vista) comes out. I didn't know that Google Sidebar had this kind of functionality.
Is there any other widgets than yahoo widgets?
yes. google has a ton of them and they are easy to use, plus you can see what other people have said about them and avoid the ones that don't work properly

I don't understand your CPU question. I am running the widget engine and several widgits. The overhead is very low. Less then 1 percent most of the time.

Widgets claim no network connection when trying to sign in?
You have to restart your computer.
Widgets claim no network connection when trying to sign in?
There are several ways you can check network connections....
you have to get to a command line, and this applies only to PC's....
you get a DOS prompt and type in ipconfig/all if you have some flavor of Windows running. that command will tell you what your ip address is, your gateway to the internet and if you are connected, it will give you at least one DNS entry for the ISP's server. If you get that info, and have and DNS address, then do the following next.
type in ping (the dns ip address) like this...ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
the command sends out 4 ICMP requests to that server which will be answered back (unless the ISP is blocking those) if you have at least 2 answers back, you have a bit of network issues, latency or line level issues, or similar problems whether dsl or cable.
If you get four answers back that the server actually answers...try ping www.yahoo.com if you can reach one of their servers, you have good internet connection.
If none of the above works, but you are getting browser contact to the internet with no problem, it's quite possibly a routing issue between your ISP and the next hop out. They may have done that intentionally...if so, you'll have to contact the tech folks for your ISP.
If none of the above works, then you don't have a good internet connection and you need tech support or a service call to get the connection problem fixed.
To help the ISP, if you own a router between your modem and your computer...shut it and your PC down for about a minute. then restart the router, wait about a minute and start your computer....then re run the DOS commands above and see if the browser works. Lots of times, the router will lose connection for a second or so, then can't reestablish because of a freeze in the firmware on the router.
If you own the router, you'll be responsible for it's malfunction...if the ISP owns it and you lease it, then you will have to get them to talk you through any issues on it.
Hope this helps....though network connectivity problems can be a bugger.

Widgets are tator-tots?
What are they?
They sound like they are tator-tots...seriously..
Widgets are tator-tots?
No, Widgets are not tater tots. Maybe you are thinking about wedges (potato wedges),
Yahoo! Widgets is a free JavaScript runtime engine for Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows, previously called Konfabulator, but subsequently bought by Yahoo!. The runtime engine runs small applications referred to as Widgets, and hence is part of a class of software applications called widget engines. It combines its JavaScript engine with an XML document structure that can be used to author custom Widgets.
The Yahoo! Widget Engine provides a default set of widgets that perform a variety of functions. Yahoo! Widgets help you save time and stay current by bringing an always-updated, at-a-glance view of your favorite Internet services right to your desktop.
The Yahoo! Widget Gallery offers over 4,000 desktop Widgets - the most available anywhere online. Yahoo! Widgets is the only major desktop Widgets platform that works on both Windows and Mac OSes.

How can I run Widgets from another folder then C:\..\My Documents\My Widgets?
you need to first make the new folder
then go to the old folder and copy the data into the new folder
but if you do change it to the new folder, i dont think you will be able to delete the orginol one
so you will be taking up more room on the computer
so if your computers slow with widgets i wouldnt make another folder
Reply:yes but if you do that it will use more space than if you use the default folder if your computer is not really new and has a lot of memory i would use it

Can anyone explain a widget?the how tos of widgets?
a JavaScript runtime engine for Windows and Mac OS X that lets you run little files called Widgets that can do pretty much whatever you want them to. Widgets can be alarm clocks, calculators, can tell you your WiFi signal strength, will fetch the latest stock quotes for your preferred symbols, and even give your current local weather.
You can also have custom widgest created by others like a Quoter Widget of sorts

What Is the Yahoo! Widget Engine?
The Yahoo! Widget Engine (formerly known as Konfabulator) is a JavaScript runtime engine for Windows and Mac OS X that lets you run little files called Widgets that can do pretty much whatever you want them to. Widgets can be alarm clocks, calculators, can tell you your WiFi signal strength, will fetch the latest stock quotes for your preferred symbols, and even give your current local weather.
What sets Yahoo! Widget Engine apart from other scripting applications is that it takes full advantage of today's advanced graphics. This allows Widgets to blend fluidly into your desktop without the constraints of traditional window borders. Toss in some sliding and fading, and these little guys are right at home in Windows and Mac OS X.
The format for these Widgets is completely open and easy to learn so creating your own Widgets is an extremely easy task.
For the "skinning" crowd, Yahoo! Widget Engine is a dream come true. You can easily change the look, feel, layout, even functionality of a Widget so that it matches your lifestyle, your desktop, or the pants or skirt you have on that day.
A Little History...
Some time in early 2000 Arlo Rose came up with an idea for a cool little application. It would use XML to structure images, and a scriptable language, like Perl, in such a way that someone who knew the basics of Perl could put together cool little mini-applications. The goal was that these mini-applications would just sit around on your desktop looking pretty, while providing useful feedback.
All he ever really wanted was to have a cool looking battery monitor and something that told him the weather, but he knew the possibilities for something like this could potentially be limitless.
Fast forward a couple of years when Arlo began working with Perry Clarke at Sun Microsystems. Over lunch one afternoon Arlo gave Perry the basics of this dream app. Perry suggested that JavaScript would be far easier for people to digest. He was right. It's the basis for Flash's ActionScript, and Adobe's scripting engine for Photoshop. Of all the choices, JavaScript made the most sense. Shortly after that lunch, the two began to spend their nights and weekends making this thing a reality.
A half year later it was ready for download on Mac OS X.
Time flew by, Ed Voas joined the team and the Windows version was unveiled.
